Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a lawyer to get a divorce?

No, you do not need an attorney to get a divorce in Florida. However, divorce can be a complicated and trying process. There are many benefits to getting an attorney to advocate for you during this difficult time in your life.

Do I need a lawyer if I have been served with a temporary domestic violence injunction?

No, you do not need a lawyer and can appear on your own behalf, which is called “Pro Se.” However, during a court hearing, the rules of evidence apply. If you are not knowledgeable about these rules, you will be at a disadvantage, especially if an attorney represents the other party. These rules are important when you need to present evidence to the court, including photographs, videos, screenshots of text messages, etc.

How much child support will I have to pay?

It depends. Child support in Florida is governed by the Child Support Statute and will take into consideration the following:

  • Both Parents’ Incomes
  • The Number of Minor Children the Parents Have
  • The Amount of Time the Child Spends Overnight with Each Parent
